On this edition of Toying with Darcy's Emotions...

What does Dollhouse's second season have to do with Firefly? According to TV By
The Numbers, more than you may expect. And, if you follow their logic, it may
even mean that we could see new Firefly on our screens. Saying that the
continued success of Firefly on DVD is likely one reason behind Fox's surprise
renewal of Dollhouse, the site's Nick C writes,

I think from my talks with the people running FOX that they would bring [Firefly] back under the right circumstances. However, you must understand that right now Nathan Fillion, Adam Baldwin, Morena Baccarin, and Alan Tudyk (plus he was killed in SERENITY) all have gigs for the foreseeable future. However don't underestimate the power of a movie. FOX could likely be easily talked into a Movie or two for next season. They could air after an NFL game or playoff game. The movies would easily sell on DVD. The question now falls into rights, but the guys at FOX wouldn't be alone. If Universal is now in possession of future rights to projects, NBC or USA wouldn't mind getting in on the cash opportunity either. A couple movies shot and made for TV and then released on DVD would be profitable for anyone involved. At the same time the cast would still be able to keep doing their normal gigs. Just shoot the movie around their schedules.

Does this mean it's likely? Not really, unless Joss Whedon or somebody else at Mutant Enemy suddenly decides that it's a good idea - and, to be honest, I'd be surprised that this avenue hasn't been explored before by those who wanted the series to continue in the first place. But, then again, I don't have sources at Fox, so there's every possibility that they are ready for some more flights of the Serenity... and if they could work out schedules, a million browncoats might finally be willing to forgive and forget.

Firefly: Would FOX or NBC Be Willing To Bring It Back? [TV By The Numbers]

I want this. I want it so bad. I, among thousands of other fellow browncoats, would do all sorts of borderline illegal things, (possibly even things that cross that border) to make this happen. You want my money, evil corporate dillholes who are in charge of these decisions? You got it! I'll buy the DVD, the Blu-Ray, the Special Edition Collectors box set with a life size replica of Vera or something else super pandertastic like a skanky bust of River, ALL OF IT! I will give up important things for this, like food and dignity.

However, my feeling about the circumstances of it possibly even kinda maybe coming back are so mixed I don't even know where to begin. Oh wait, yes I do.

WASH IS NOT DEAD LALALA I CAN'T HEAR YOU!!

Ok, now that that is out of the way, lets us examine the pros and cons.

Pros:

-Firefly would be back! The squee moments and the characters and the awesomness of the show I love would be back for me to enjoy! Questions could be answered! (i.e. WTF is up with Book, and Whats the deal with those Two by Two Hands of Blue guys?!) and the world could be expanded, character backgrounds and relationships could be further fleshed out!

-Two Words: NATHAN FILLION

THIS GUY! CAPTAIN TIGHTPANTS!! WANT!

-More Words: Jayne! Zoe! Wash! Kaylee! Hot Doctor! You get it!!
-Joss (if he comes back with the show) could get the oppourtunity to show us what Firefly could have done in the second season! Give Joss a chance!

Cons/Worries:
-Would we be getting post Serenity continuity (i.e. would there, or wouldn't there be a Hoban Washburn in the world!?) or the world between, like in the graphic novels?

-It's really not even worth the effort if the original cast doesn't come back. As the article points out, Most of the people I love most in the show are currently elsewhere employed. (Though with the exemption of Adam Baldwin and Joss Whedon I'd be perfectly happy if the other cast member's shows suddenly got canned in favor of this. I really REALLY like Chuck and I don't know how I'd feel if Adam Baldwin left that show, even for another Firefly. And could Joss maybe handle two shows at once? Dollhouse is getting pretty good! They are giving that show a second chance, despite the ratings. Should I give up on my Firefly dreams and just latch onto this show for my Whedon-verse fix?)

-The chances of the magic coming back are low, even if they get every single member of the original cast and crew back. Taking even one ingredient out of the pot has a high chance of epically failing and dashing our dreams upon the cold cold ground.

-I realize that this is yet more idle internet chatter with no actual anything to back it up, it's been going on since the show was cancelled initially. BUT I CAN HOPE CANT I!? IT'S ALL I HAVE!!!

Closing Thoughts:

If I clap my hands and cry "I do believe in Firefly, I do! I do!" will it be real!? PLEASE!?

I hate the internet for making me believe for even a moment that this is within my reach.

I'll be in the corner weeping for my fandom if anyone needs me.

I would give my first born to have more Firefly. In fact, I will go out right now and get impregnanted if that's what it takes.

Of course, if we're doing post-Serenity continuity then Joss is going to have to bring Wash back BECAUSE HE IS NOT DEAD. I honestly don't care how you do it. I don't care if Wash was cloned or if it was MAGIC or if he's a zombie or he's an immortal from Highlander or even if Wash is a goddamned Cylon, I DO NOT CARE. WASH IS NOT DEAD.

Of course, the whole point of this is just to raise my hopes only to dash them on the cruel rocks of reality. This is why I live in a land of denial.

Zombie Wash would be pretty sweet though.
